    Please could i ask that someone assist me with this Question 330175,

    I do not understand where the explanation is getting the TOD and the TOC from and the distance between them being 97nm?

    Many thanks

    M

    (Refer to Route Manual chart E(HI)1 or ANNEX 033-006)
    An aircraft has to fly from the airport at Aberdeen (57°19'N 002°16'W) to the airport at Benbecula (57°29'N 007°22'W). Given: Time to climb 11 min Time to descend is 15 min: TOC is at 3W: TOD is at 6W: TAS 210kts (still air): Find the total journey time?

    Explanation....

    Aberdeen to TOC = 11 min

    TOC 3W to TOD 6W - measure distance 97 NM

    Time = (Dist / Speed)
    Time = (97/ 210)
    Time = 0.462 hours
    0.462 x 60 = 28 min

    TOD to Benbecula = 15 min

    Total Journey Time = 11 + 28 + 15 = 54 min

    On your E(HI)1, look at the UN851 airway ABERDEEN to BENBECULAR .... mark 3°W (TOP OF CLIMB) and 6°W (TOP OF DESCENT). Measure the distance between these two points (97 NM) (Use the latitude scale as the distance scale - 1° latitude = 60NM, 1' latitude = 1NM) - this the distance you are at cruise.
