    Hi,
Can some one give me some help on this.
I get FL120 but the system is giving correct answer FL140:

An aircraft, following a 215° true track, must fly over a 10 600 ft obstacle with a minimum obstacle clearance of 1 500 ft. Knowing the QNH received from an airport close by, which is almost at sea-level, is 1035 and the temperature is ISA -15°C, the minimum flight level will be.......????
    Thanks !

    Re: Flight/Planning 033

This question came up in the helicopter FP exam 2 months ago - 3 points!

    Minimum altitude (10 600 + 1500) = 12 100 ft on QNH 1035 hPa

    Pressure correction for 1013mb (1035 - 1013) = 22mb, (22 x 30) = 660 ft. (12 100 – 660) = 11 440 ft

    Temperature correction:
    4ft x temp dev x altitude/1000ft = 4 x 15 x 12.1 = 726 ft
Is it plus or minus??? HIGH to LOW careful go (+) ... we are ISA -15*C, so the correction is +ve (be careful - our altimeter will say we are higher than we are)

    Minimum Pressure Altitude = 12 100 -660 + 726 = 12 166 ft

TRUE track 215⁰T (we will assume they mean MAG track) ICAO semicircular says we need an EVEN FLIGHT LEVEL ... EVEN FL above 12166ft = FL140

      Dear Tom,

I want to ask why didn't you put density correction (density altitude) there, as it was asking for flight level not altitude ? Where would actually we use density altitude, and where true altitude ?
