  • Question 330780 Wrong

    I came accross this question:

Refer to GSPRM Jeppesen Approach Plate SCHIPOL EHAM (16-). What type of Approach Lighting is there on Rwy 18C?

    A. PAPIS.
    B. HIALS.
    C. HIALS (Calvert II)
    D. Standard ALSF II.

Supposedly, option C is correct. In the description provided with the answer states: Shown at bottom right of plare above Circle to Land minima. Refer to page (GSP) SYMBOLS-5. High Intensity Approch Lighting System (Calvert II)

However, this is wrong because SYMBOLS-5 refers to APT-PT (Airport plates, NOT approach plates). If we look for that symbol in SYMBOLS-9, we find the correct legend for approach plates.

The only symbol that matches the approach plate is the fourth one starting from the top, which is HIALS ONLY, not Calvert. Calvert lighting system consists of 5 crossbars, which don't appear here. Don't be fooled by HIALS-"II". That "II" refers only to ICAO lightning for CAT II/III approaches.

In my opinion, option B is the correct one.

Hi Cuaquero and thanks for high lighting the error which has now been corrected. This appears to have been a combination of 2 questions.
