As 7700 says read the wording.
Question ID 330750 asks:
Given the following information:
3.5 h total endurance
200 NM to travel on Track 270 W/V 270/20 TAS 100kt
The pilot must land with 30 min of fuel remaining, calculate the distance and time to the PSR.
TOTAL endurance is to tanks dry. WE must subtract 30 min fuel from 3.5 hours to give us 3.0 SAFE endurance to calculate PSR.
If the Q had stated 3.5 hours SAFE endurance and that we must land with 30 min fuel; no subtraction is required because 3.5 hrs SAFE endurance means land with reserves. So we would use 3.5 hours to calculate PSR.

Keyword is 'Total', which is given as 3.5 hours
However, in this question, it states that you need to land with 30mins reserve, so minus the 0.5
Gives a Safe Endurance of 3.0

Question ID: 330750
Given the following information:
3.5 h total endurance
the safe endurance according to BGS is 3 hours and that is what the answer says.

You need to land with 30 mins reserve, so use 3.0 hours of safe endurance instead of 3.5
Check question I.D. 330750

Use 3.5 hours. The Q states given 3.5 hours of Safe endurance which means you will return to base with reserves; presumably the 30 min mentioned in the Q. Therefore to calculate PSR use Safe endurance of 3.5 hours.

Hi
I've checked with Tom and we agree that the number to use in the PSR formula is the "safe endurance", in this case 3.5 hours.
If you used 3.5 and know definitely that you had it marked as incorrect please let us know.
Cheers
JJ

I'd also like to know this - had it in my exam in August and got it wrong as I had no idea what they were asking for. If I'd have got it right, I'd have passed...

New exam question
Hello,
Does anyone can tell me if we have to use 3.5 or 3 hours in the formula for the following question please?
"Given 3.5 hours of safe endurance, they gave you the g/s out and home, told you that you needed 30 minutes of fuel remaining and they wanted the PSR, do you use the 3.5 or 3 hours in the formula?"
Thank youTags: None
